It’s the beginning of Banned Books Week! One of my favorite holidays for it celebrates the freedom to read and draws attention to the increasing problem of censorship. To participate in Banned Books Week, the library will have guest posts from staff and students celebrating their love of reading by nominating their favorite banned book through the week and also through the month of October. In addition, we’ll be curating boards on Pinterest and photosets on Tumblr.
If you are a student or staff at Grand Rapids Community College, you can participate by emailing me your favorite title, author, along with a paragraph or two of why this is your favorite banned book.
Curious about what books have been challenged? Here is a list of challenged books from the last decade and challenged classics. You can also peruse through our posts previous years to see what others are saying writing about banned and challenged books for inspiration.
